STONE TOWN TOUR

SPICE TOUR

Zanzibar is famed around the world for the quality of its spices. This tour explores the industry that put the island on the map and teaches the island’s rich history. You will explore the various spices of Zanzibar which are used in almost every kitchen on earth, such as cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, garlic, lemongrass, turmeric, ginger, vanilla, nutmeg, and more. You’ll not only learn how these spices go from the plantations to our tables but also about the more uncommon uses for these spices as home remedies.

JOZANI FOREST

Jozani Forest, also known as Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, is the only national park on Zanzibar Island. It is very small (only 50 kilometers square) but beautiful and tranquil place to visit. The forest is a natural pharmacy and truly an amazing source of natural remedies. The forest is also famous for rare Red Colobus Monkeys and even harder to spot – Zanzibar Sykes’ monkeys. Additionally, you may see bushbabies and more than 40 species of birds.

BUTTERFLY CENTRE

Get to know the endemic species of Zanzibar’s butterflies with a visit to the Butterfly Centre in the heart of the island close to the Jozani Forest. The Centre focuses on three areas: educational visits, conservation and butterfly farming. The interactive and visual environment offers a pleasant experience for adults and children alike. You will learn all about the life stages of butterflies and see many varieties flying around.

SNORKELING SAFARI

A unique experience with your own traditional Dhow boat and crew, snorkeling in the beautiful waters around Zanzibar. You may even get to see dolphins at play. Visit the mangrove lagoon forest where it feels like a natural swimming pool. There will also be a stop at one of the sandbanks for a Swahili seafood beach barbeque.

FORODHANI NIGHT MARKET

Every night Forodhani Gardens in Stone Town turns into a busy street food market! If you want to experience the unique atmosphere of the Gardens, arrive early before the night food market begins while fishermen drag their wooden dhows back to the sand, street vendors slowly set up carts and makeshift tables. You can walk towards the shore and take a seat at the seawall while watching the famous “Forodhani Jumpers” display their nightly diving shows as the sun sets. As the market comes to life you can join the crowds and follow your nose to pick Zanzibar and Swahili delicacies such as grilled lobster, squid, crab, barracuda, shrimp and calamari. Other bites such as Zanzibar pizza, samosas, sweet potatoes, and meat skewers are also available.

PRISON ISLAND

On Changuu Island, otherwise known as Prison Island, travelers can take a guided tour of the island and learn about its historical significance, including the slave trade, the prison, and its transformation into a nature reserve. Visitors can also interact with giant tortoises, which are over a hundred years old and endemic to the island.
